Influence, Power and Politics – Why They Matter More Than You May Realize

power&politicsSAN DIEGO, CA –  The Executive Leadership Mastermind (ELM) Group will hold its bi-monthly breakfast meeting on Thursday, September 7th, from 7-9am at the University Club Atop Symphony Towers in Downtown San Diego. The topic of the featured presentation will be: Influence, Power and Politics – Why They Matter More Than You May Realize presented by the University of San Diego professor Craig Barkacs. According to Prof. Barkacs, although some may regard the topics of influence, power and politics as somewhat ominous, understanding and utilizing this area of interpersonal dynamics is crucial.
How many times does one hear in the workplace the utterance, “I don’t believe in politics,” or “I don’t play politics?”Such comments often suggest one of three things: 1) The speaker is naïve; 2) The speaker is not very good at politics; or 3) The statement itself is a political ploy in the sense that the speaker is suggesting that he or she is somehow above politics.
As for those who are sincere about distancing themselves from politics, you might wish to consider the words of Plato: “Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber.”
The presentation will be followed by an Executive Leadership Mastermind discussion and the opportunity to network with other leaders.  A continental breakfast will be served. Seating is limited and RSVP’s are required. To RSVP go to:
